There is a moment, forty-three minutes into Alice Rohrwacher's La Chimera, where the camera rests on a handful of Etruscan dust held to a single shaft of light. I have programmed maybe fourteen hundred films in my career and I can count on one hand the number of shots that have rearranged something inside me. This is one of them. It arrives on 1MOV tonight in a new 4K restoration supervised by the Cinematheque Française — and we are pairing it with a director commentary, a thirty-minute essay by Kogonada, and a Rohrwacher retrospective running through January.
